We have 4 Hermann Tortoises 3 female and 1 male all about 6 years of age.

After coming out of hibernation, the male was constantly trying to mate with one particular female then over the last 3 to 4 weeks he is basically ignoring her. Does this look as though he has successfully mated with her?

Also if she is pregnant then should she be removed from the other tortoises in order to lay her eggs? They all live together in an outdoor enclosure but we do also have a tortoise table which we use when bringing them out of hibernation so she could be kept in there.

All advise welcome

If they are 6, then they are still a bit young to be breeding, sure he may have a go but I would be very suprised if it was a successful mating. I wouldn't seperate her, if you change the environement and she IS gravid then the chances are she won't lay anyway. I'd leave them be and just keep an eye on them and see what happens....
