Hello

I have the flu symptoms and my two Hermann babies will come out of hibernation very soon. I am unsure if they are safe from this virus as i might be still contagious and they are potentially depleted to some degrees of their immune functions.

I understand that the viruses carried by humans are not transmissible to tortoises. Please let me know if they will be safe.

Of course I am treating myself as much as i can.

Thank you

Ive always been led to believe that the only zoonotic ‘disease’ risk is from parasites, but some ‘experts’ even dispute this. I’ve never passed anything on to my torts that I’m aware of and often handled them while I’m unwell. I’m pretty sure they will be fine Sabina. I’ve got a nasty virus type thing going on at the moment and my big torts are coming out tomorrow all being well. Going by your last checks, if all is well you could always leave them for another week, raising temps slightly so they come out gradually. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Thank you Sue!  I am taking all my anti viral herbs as usual and lots of anti-inflammatory foods!
