Hello everyone

As we all know and as a friendly reminder for new keepers of Mediterranean tortoises (especially those with young ones), with this continued hot and dry weather please make sure torts have an area with damp soil (damp deeply, not damp on top only) where they can dig in at night and also water dishes available during the day. Also areas of good shade for those who have just built their outdoors enclosures.

Of course some fake rain with a hoose or a water can will most likely be enjoyed by our torts.

I agree with the hose method. During hot days I hose down the plants in the pen and simulate rain. Keeping the hose over each tortoise they will perform a dance type action, moving their back legs from side to side destubing the soil below creating a small depression allowing a small puddle to form. They seem to really enjoy it. Allowing them to cool down / hydrate.
