Hi all,

I fed the tortoises some curly kale tonight and they loved it. It's the first time I've seen them eat anything!!

I just wanted to make sure that it's ok to feed them curly kale?

Thanks

Thanks Matt, I'll give that a try.

Hi wizzasmum,

Yes I am bathing them every evening in Luke warm water.

I haven't checked their weight. Is that a good idea then?

Thank you

Evening all,

Thanks for all the replies.

I have removed the slate and will change the substrate to 100% top soil (minus the sand) over the weekend.

I am still having no luck in getting them to feed.

They seem to be moving so much slower now so I'm getting increasingly worried.

Will keep you all posted and I'll get some pics to show you all over the weekend.

Thanks again

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am spraying the substrate to keep it moist.

It's 30 under the basking lamp which I'm keeping on for about 12 hours a day and the other parts of the tortoise table are room temperature.

I have put a small amount of calcium powder in the water when I bathe them.

I've got a piece of slate under the basking lamp, a tile to put their food on, substrate is 50% top soil and 50% play pit sand and there is a little shelter for them too.

I have put newspaper on the outside so they can't see out as I read that they will "bump" in to the sides if they can see out.

Does all the above sound ok?

What can I feed them?

Thanks again

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a bit of guidance/help.

I have 2 hatchlings which are just over 1 week old but they don't seem to be eating and I haven't seen them drink yet either.

I have bathed them several times to try an encourage them to drink but no luck so far.

I have tried to feed them dandelions, finely chopped lettuce and finely chopped cherry tomatoes but they don't seem interested.

They seemed very active when they first hatched but now all they do is sleep under the basking lamp.

I'm worried that they aren't doing very well and fear the worse if they don't eat or drink.

Any help really would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tony
