Hello .
I am a bit concered about our Shellys urine ,it has always ok
ie thick whitish creamy substance ,but in the last 10 days it is just like clear water ,
As her diet has not changed (weeds ect ) I am wondering what the reason could be .
She is a 4 year old Med spur thigh who seems to be in excellent health ( clear of worms ect)
Thank you Bob

Hi Bob,

As far as I'm aware, this is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. The creamy white stuff is the urates. As long as this is creamy and not gritty in texture you've nothing to worry about - if its gritty it means your tort is dehydrated and will need extra baths until it returns to normal.

They don't always pass urates in the urine - in which case the urine would be clear.

As a foot note, if your tort is eating lots of Dandelions it can make the wee red!!!!!! Don't know why but it does, just so that you're aware!

Hope this will do till someone with more knowledge come's along! Wee's not my specialist subject!!! :P

Hi Bob,
I have to agree with Dawn about the urates, they dont always show in the urine, mine very rarely do. I asked the vet about this once and he said that if they are well hydrated the wee will be clear.
Hope this sets your mind at rest.
Love Maz.:*
