Could anyone give me advice on the care of this species such as diet etc. as I am thinking of getting some in the next few months. Also does anyone now of any breeders of this species.
Thanks
Peter

yellow footed tortoises captive care animals need a good humidity to thrive well 80% is recommended , they are relatively shy tortoises and don;t like bright light they rearly use basking lamps so an ambient air temp is usually needed to keep them comfortable around 85-88c a drop at night can be tolerated to 75-80c, mine do use a 100w trex uvb flood lamp but these lamps don't give the bright glow you get from other spot bulbs as uvb is still needed to some extent for this species , yellow foots also drink every day huge amount of water so this must be available at all times.
Diet consists of a variety of fruits veg and mixed greens i found they prefer fruit to anything else and only tend to eat leafy green material if its been mixed with fruit
my diet;
courgettes
squash (grated)
Boiled carrot
Dandelion;
chinese cabbage;
mushrooms(a big favorite)
papaya;
plum;
melon;
tomatoe;
and other seasonal fruits
i have eggs in my incubator just now but still got 10wks to go before they hatch there are very few breeder of yellow foots in the uk but you can find some for sale on http://www.livefoods....uk/classified/ look at DC tortoises Dean usually has some for sale

Hi,

Would not mind some Yellowfoots myself but they are not that easy to find! Rare as rocking horse #### is the term that would describe these torts.

Great pictures. Good luck with the hatching.

Mike
