if you can measure them and perhaps weigh them it will be easier to tell you a rough age but they all look the same age to me

Awww,
So cute aren't they when they are little, It does take time to settle in though. I just cant wait for the better weather to come so I can sit in the garden and watch them explore.

Hi vwplaygirl
Soon as i get home i will check through my rearing notes for you and i'm sure we will get an acurateish age from the weights and sizes it shouldn't be that difficult

Hi,
I think you need a red foot specialist as i`ve had the same dilema and was getting allsorts of conflicting age definitions.
In the end i went to specialists of my breed and spoke to more than one person. Eventually i`ve now found the correct age of my tortoise`s, nothing like i initially thought. Good luck with it.

Hi Becky
sorry for the delay been sorting the torts out first;
Well these are my notes on redfoot hatchling growth rates up to five years old;
My reds hatch between 28g-36g and 40-45mm in length
At 3months they have gained weight between 45g-50g and are 45-50mm in lenghth.
At 5 months they 60g-65g and are 55-70mm in length.
At 12 months they are 110g-125g and 90-110mm in length.
At 15-18 months they are 125g-155g and 120-135mm in length
At 5yrs they are 280g-390g and 170-200mm in length.
I would estimate yours at 12-15 months of age.
Now you are welcome to take second opinions as i am certainly no expert but all the reds i have reared are reared for smooth shell growth and i like a slow and steady rise in weight and growth reds do grow relativly fast so plenty of calcium carbonate is important to get a good smooth growth , these are my findings on redfoot hatchlings growth but you may find different growth rates with different breeders i don't no any other uk long term breeders of reds to compare mine to but if Dan reads this he may be able to help also as reds are bred in captivity in the usa more frequently than here in the uk as i have only beem breeding reds for 5 yrs this is my 6th year now hope this helps
