Just wondering what were the birth weights of your hatchlings .As you know I had just the 1 horsfield hatchling and he/she only weighed 15 gramms- on the low side I thought.Almost 3 weeks later "Clover"is just touching 16gramms .I'm aiming for the 1-2gramms per month as has been recommended on here.Is that about right for horsfields?
Thanks
Kind Regards
Laura(Tomatillo)

both these weighed in at 11g on hatching they still are 11g now but yeah 1-2g a month is ine nice steady growth is what your looking for , horsfields are pigs and will grow fast and pyramided if not kept in check

Hi Jeff
i use a tipex marker pen its quite good in that its not that easily removed when they go about there daily business so i can always keep an id on each hatchling specially for record keeping etc , i did use the coloured tape method but it kept coming off found this much better plus it isn't that difficult to remove if you use a bit of mild baby soap and a soft toothbrush they come up all brand new

They look great Darren. How many clutches do you usually get from your females?

Does the size of the female have anything to do with how many eggs she may lay?I remember reading an article somewhere (may have been on the Tortoise Trust website) about a horsfield laying 18 eggs in one clutch. They said it was very rare I imagine she must have been huge for a horsfield.

I can't recall whether it mentioned about whether they all successfully hatched .I think perhaps you must be right ,it probably was the total number from all her clutches .I will try and find the article when I have a some time to search through all the horsfield sites
