heat lamp

hi have a ceramic heat lamp for my tortoise ,could someone tell me should i turn it off on a night or turn it down ,;-) thank you

Hi Claire,

I have a ceramic heat lamp on a thermostat, set to go on at night if the temperature falls below about 55F (13C), but it rarely does. Tortoises need a drop in temperature at night, so I think you can turn it off. What do you use it for normally? In the daytime your basking light should be sufficient to give you the temperature you need (it needs to be about 90F at one end of the enclosure and about 70F at the other, and a 60W or 100W ordinary household spotlight is good enough to do that).

hi my thermo heat lamp on a thermo,yes i have the temp right at both ends ,i will start turning it down at night ,thanks for your help:7 :+
