The Tortoise Protection Group was launched in January, 2007 with the aim of stopping the importation of tortoises into the UK for the commercial pet trade, and to promote high standards of husbandry in tortoise keeping. Over the last year we have been working closely with members of Parliament and various charities to bring about a change in legislation, and our petition has well over 10,000 signatures already.

The new TPG website is designed to complement some of the best existing websites in providing authoritative information on all aspects of tortoise keeping. We are pleased to announce that the website is being launched today, Wednesday, 11 June, and we urge you to visit it and make use of the facilities there.

In addition to information about the history of the TPG, our goals, and our campaign, the TPG website has many features, including:

--- Detailed care sheets
--- Comprehensive instructions on hibernation
--- Links to major pieces of legislation
--- Glossary containing over 400 terms
--- Members' forum
--- Photo galleries
--- Lists of recommended UK tortoise breeders and vets
--- What to look for when buying a tortoise
--- TPG rehoming service

The website is still evolving, and we shall continue to add material to it, but we hope that you will find something to interest you on your first visit, and that you will return frequently to discover new material. Please call in and introduce yourself.

Kindest Regards
