A friend just phoned me to say her tortoise has white swirly marks on her shell. She just noticed them when she went to bath her. My tortoise does not have these and now she is worried. Any ideas to what it might be??

Hello Donna
Without seeing a photo, it could well be growth rings, if the tortoise is growing quickly they will be more prominent than a tortoise that is growing at much slower rate, which is, the correct way

Hi Emma,

If your tort is gaining weight too quickly then you need to cut down on the amount of food you feed them, aim for 2-3 grammes a month.

Hi Emma

Can you upload some photographs?

What age is the tortoise. Jo has said aim for 2-3 grams a month, perhaps she knows its a young tort but if it is older then it really needs to gain a lot more than that.

Some more info would help.

At 2 years old, 2 - 3 grammes a month weight gain is the right amount to aim for :-)
