Hettie is awake bathed and basking... but she seems to have a white face? Around her mouth right up until just below her eyes. It is nothing that will wash off although it doesn't show when her face is wet, any ideas?

I wondered if she is a bit dehydrated?

Hi Paula

I expect if you tortoise has just gotten up from hibernation, she is a little dehydrated, thats why its important to keep bathing them. Also to clear out thier kidneys etc. The gunk around the mouth could be what we get sometimes when we wake up.
Just keep bathing the area, I am sure it will sort itself out.
Can she open her mouth?
If so just give the mouth a check, to make sure all is well.

Thanks Sandy,

It isnt so much of a gunk, just like she's bleached!

Yes she can open her mouth she is yawning well and her tongue looks nice and pink. I will give her another bath when I have done the weed walk!

I had almost forgotten how little trouble these little chaps are!! LOL!!

(but sooo worth it) :D

My 2 had a whiteish face as well, (looked like they had been in fridge lmao soz) after the first bath they also had a little bit of white stuff around their eyes which Hermie wiped away himself but as pebs wasn't so active I gently washed her face with wet kitchen roll. I put it down to 'sleep' a bit like us in the morning. They have lost the white look now and are in and out of their water as well as having warmer baths as well, got their dark faces back :)

Eating well and getting more active now too.

Hope that makes u feel better :)
