I went to a large garden centre near Ivybridge a couple of days ago and they had 3 redfoot tortoises, about 10 inches long, in a vivarium about 5x2ft. I was told they only grow to about the same length as ordinary tortoises (already they are bigger), and that their diet is the same,'lettuce and stuff'. They agreed the housing was inadequate and they were reviewing it.
He said they had been there a long time and customers didn't seem to want them. I said perhaps the customers were more sensible than their livestock purchasers and maybe they should cut their losses and find a specialist home for them. I also said they should review their advice to tortoise customers as their advice on diet needed reviewing. I usually see Horsefields in there.
I think when we first started talking he was hoping he could offload them onto an unsuspecting customer. By the end of the conversation he probably wished he'd stayed in bed that morning. (Graham, behind me, certainly wished he had)
I've written to the manager.

Sometimes it just has to be done. smile.gif

Well done Lin, hope this means something will be done to change the conditions the little chaps are being kept in. wub.gif Let us know if the manager replies.

I wonder if next time Graham will stay in the car? tongue.gif
