Hi There,
Tortoise's often get foreign bodies in their eyes. Because their eye's are particularly sensitive it would be wise not to treat it yourself. I would suggest a visit to the vet for a check-up. He would be able to prescribe a safe medication with which to treat the eye. Hope this helps.
Kind Regards
Freddy

Hi There,
Maybe you could ring a vet or reptile specialist and describe your torts symptoms. They might be able to help you over the phone if they know your situation.
The problem could also be something in his environment that he is allergic to. Anyway best to seek professional advice. Best of luck.
Kind Regards
Freddy

Hi there,

I wouldn't take any chances, I would get torty to the vets. Young torts can go downhill very quickly, it might be a case of some drops and all will be well, but he really does need some help.

There is a list at the top of the page when you first log in, are any near you? I have also Pmd you a different list I have.

Best of luck, let us know how he gets on. wub.gif

I have been persuaded to reply to this, and think about posting again, so here goes.
As a temporary thing until you can get your tortoise to a tortoise vet, you can bathe in sterile water.
Or drop a drop of codliver oil into the eye, or go to the chemist and gets some "artificial tears" which are used for human eyes. These things wont hurt your tortoises eye, but might ease things until you can get him/her to a vet.
As sometimes these things are simple sometimes they are not, so always best to get them checked.

Hello
Hannah Bould is excellent with torts she is along distance away from you but she may be able to give you some advice over the phone, what is the substrate you are using in the enclosure, sand can cause eye irritation if so i would just use top soil, and plenty of luke warm baths,i read on posts earlier about eye infections to use hypromellose to lubricate the eye which you can buy from the chemist.
Let us know how you get on.
