Can somebody please tell me if it is okay to try to put a tortoise back into hibernation if they wake up after just 2 weeks. Our fridge was accidentally turned off and after about 12 hours the temp was discovered at 19 degrees and he was awake. Is it safe please to just put him back in.

Many thanks.

Hi there,
When temperatures exceed 10 degrees during artificial hibernation a massive amount of glucose is released by the liver glycogen into the torts bloodstream. These glucose reserves are essential for a torts survival. If you put him back into the fridge after he has expended these glucose reserves he would eventually wake up from hibernation lifeless. So it is important that you keep him up now that he is awake. Hope this helps.
Kind Regards
Freddy
