That would depend on how old your tort is, it looks like a female, but it's under four years old, it will be too early tell. If it is a female that means you could only put another female with her, as you can't keep a male & female in a one to one situation unless they have separate runs. There is of course a long quarantine before introducing tortoises. Tortoises are quite solitary in the wild, she will not need a 'friend' :)

Hi tortoiselover,
When you get a new tortoise you need to quarantine or keep it separate from other tortoises to prevent the possible spread of viruses and infections.
The quarantine period determines whether your new tortoise is healthy or not before you mix it with others. The minimum quarantine period for a new tortoise is 6 months but can be up to 12 months depending on whether you got your tortoise from a reputable breeder or a pet shop. Hope this helps. Take care.
Kind Regards
Freddy

at 3 years old my tortoise stuck (something) out his tail.. yup figured, he is a guy! :P so you will soon find out if he is! also My tortoise's stomach is flat, maybe slightly curved up but my friends is female and completely sticks out.

My 07 torts seemed to grow 'boy tails' overnight last summer!

I had been convinced one was female but was unsure of the other.
