Hi there, looking for some advice

Getting a tortoise soon and trying to get set up. Is it best to use combined lighting or separate? And can anyone suggest which I should buy?

Hi Farbra,

I use a 100w combined bulb, set at around 12-15 inches above the basking spot with a 150w Infra-red heater for an extra source when the ambient tempature drops below 18C.
Ozric is right with what he says, and also be aware that a combined solution will require a bulb change every 6-8 months. The UV-element burns out and even though you can still see 'blue-rays', it might not actually output the same levels of UVB as it would have when it was first switched on.
