Hi,

Mabel and Daphne are about to go into the fridge today for their first hibernation. The fridge is ready and temps are between 4-6 degrees and they have had their 3 week wind down. I have three thermometers in there, including one that measures humidity. Thanks to Kelly for letting me borrow her wind down plan :)

Apart from the trouble with the first fridge I bought which (temps of 1 degree!!! ) everything has gone smoothly. New fridge has kept perfect temps from day 1 - phew!

Ive attached my wind down plan, and my record sheet for hibernation. Attached File  hibernation box.JPG   39.77KB   14 downloads

I was a bit worried about Mabel who went from 81g to 66g in her wind down, although she seem to have stabilised in the last week.

They have spent the last few days in my bathroom - window open - yes it was very chilly! What we do for our animals!

They have had their last bath and weigh in and are now outside my back door now (off the ground) cooling right down for a couple of hours - temps are 8 degrees so that should be perfect for putting them in the fridge and about 11 o'clock.

I'm really going to miss them.

Denise

Hi Denise,
Sounds like you have planned and prepared well. :) I'm sure everything will work out just fine for Mabel and Daphne. Before you know it they will be up and about after their winter sleep. Best of luck. ;)
Take care
Kind Regards
Freddy :D

I told my 8 year old son that i was going to miss them yesterday. His reply.."Why would you miss them? They're only in the kichen!!"

... Fair point :)

Week 2 of hibernation and Daphne weighs 98g and Mabel weighs 65g - they have only lost 1g each since they went in and both look fine and fast asleep. :)
