This might sound like the stupidest question ever but I've got a really bad cold and can my Hermann Tortoise catch it from me?

Sorry if it sounds ridiculous!

Thanks Jay

This is not a stupid question at all, Jay, in fact it's very interesting. I did a google search, and there appears to be divided opinion on it; both of which seem feasible. One says torts do not catch cold as such as it's a human rhinovirus, whereas others say it's very possible that torts could contract it from human spread. One thing I do know is that tortoises can get very serious respiratory problems, the most common being Runny Nose Syndrome, so you're very wise in being wary.
I really think this needs clarification from a specialist vet; I'm going to ask mine next time I see her.

In the meantime, I think you're being very sensible, and if I were you, would take adequate precautions such as hand cleansing with a medication gel, and avoid too much contact until your cold has cleared up.

Hello Jay
I asked this question a few years ago and i was told to just keep up with strict hygiene and not to give any facial close contact.
