Hi Stella,
I have just completed tracing my family name 'McGavin'. It seems it was a pictish name from Scotland. My ancestors moved to Ireland a few centuries ago. There are both Scottish and Irish branches of the family. We ordered our coat of arms and it is now hanging in a place of prominence in our house. It was all a fascinating exercise and I learned a lot. Best of luck with your search.
Kind Regards
Freddy

hi stella

it can be frustrating. My dad has traced one side of our family back to the 1700's whereas another branch can only be traced back about 3 generations.

I think he uses ancestry.com. We have a lot of military history in our family which makes it easyer as everything was recorded acurately in the army records. My great grandad spent 20 years in India with the army.

This is what is frustrating me Paul.... The guy signed up with the Durham light infantry in 1900.. And was in the unattached list in india during WW1.... Good job because DLI took a battering in most major conflicts in France.
After a four year hunt I found him married, but nothing else.... Am at a loss now as to where to look!! I have spent another day looking.... I shall be too old to care if I don't get a result soon!!! X x x hugs x
