Good evening, everyone :)

My two little torts seem to prefer digging down in the dry soil close to the basking lamp to sleep at night and I worry about the hydration and their shells (although I do water the substrate). I think they perhaps avoid the bark hide at the other end because it is an empty space inside. I was therefore considering packing it up a bit with sphagnum moss to keep it humid and make it a little less intimidating for the tiny hatchlings.

Is it OK to buy the moss straight from B&Q or is it safer to buy it from a reptile store?

Many thanks,

Katie

Pack it up with soil, much better for them to be honest.

I neednt have bothered with hides and branches and rocks... It seems they are happiest digging in under each other anyway lolAttached File  IMG-20131104-00649.jpg   37.83KB   1 downloads

While the sphagnum moss was dry I rubbed it until pulverized and mixed it with Repti-Bark. Holds moisture as well as coco coir and isn't so messy-looking. (I HATE a muddy tortoise!)
