Oh dear, not having a good week with my tort after the gravel eating incident!

Now tonight I was watching him get on with his funny little ways and saw a tiny white insect crawling around his face, neck and shell!! It was no bigger than the eye of a needle.

My table is made up of pellets and play sand so nothing has been brought in from outdoors? Except weeds for food but I do wash these.

Has anybody else experienced these im worried i may need to have him treated??

Thanks

Perfectly normal, but could be encouraged by the pelleted substrate, which frankly is not good. Sand too is an irritant to tortoises eyes, so best avoided. Best substrate is soil, the same as in nature ;)

They are called fungus Knats that usually live in topsoil, totally harmless. I would definetly change your substrate to just sterile topsoil.
