Thanks for the kind comments! I am in the middle of moving the enclosure to give us more room in the garden but also increase he overall area of the enclosure. Hoping to get it finished on Sunday so will upload some pics on a new thread when done.

What lovely enclosures and thanks for your reply.  Our new heat/uv 125w  bulb arrived today and I'm worried its not hot enough!  Its dropped to 30cm above the soil and under the spot its 29.6 degrees and at the other end its 18.  Is this ok?

We have another 10litres of substrate to add, so are going to water the first lot well tonight (will put him separately overnight) and then add the new on top.

Lou

Update, its increased to 31 under the bulb and 19 right at the other end.  Is this ok?

Lamp has been in 2 hours and his energy levels have got bonkers!

Temperature is fine. Move the rocks well away from the heat lamp. If he topples onto his back under the lamp when climbing and you are not there he could effectively cook under it if he can't get back on his legs. Young ones topple quite a lot too in my experience! What substrate is that you are using?

It's ProRep Tortoise life Mediterranean substrate. It looked dry in picture but have since well watered original 2" and added further 2".

When I first started keeping tortoises I had a tortoise table just like yours. He will soon out grow it! Do you have a garden Lou?

How soon?!  I was told he was too big for a 6 month old so wasn't expecting anything too big too soon?! My husband made the box and house for my son, Hercules was his Christmas present.  We do have a garden, yes. Its enclosed, so will be good for roaming in the future.

He will be ok in that for another year maybe. You can still have an indoor bit for him for the colder months but really it's best for him to let him live outside at least in the daytime anyway. If he has an out side enclosure that is planted with edible weeds he will graze naturally and the results will be one happy, healthy tortoise. Despite what you read they don't really do too well indoors. In 2-3 years you won't be able to build an indoor enclosure big enough anyway so will be outside full time then.
