I am awaiting a new arrival in a couple of weeks and am now checking temperature variation though the day. The temperature hovers around 30 degrees but the lamp seems quite close. Is it possible for the lamp to be too close?

Has your lamp got a refector on it?if it hasnt then this will make alot of difference as the heat will be directed downwards and not escaping

Not at present although was planning on getting one. I guess it makes sense and would also allow for a higher position.
Thanks for your advice!

Yes a reflector will do the trick stevie creating a hot spot and like you say will be able to higher the lamp
