Hello

Our little tortoise, Eric, seems to be burrowing a lot at the moment and not eating too much.

He seems to have started doing this since the temperature dropped outside again even though he is currently inside.

Is this normal?

We would be grateful for any help or advice you may have!

Thank you :-)

Yes, they feel the change in pressure indoors as well as out. How long have you had him and was he from a breeder?

We have had him about two months now. He didn't eat to start with but then started eating well, and now has reduced the amount he chooses to eat. We got him from a reptile centre but a certificate came with him too :-) He has put on approx 4g so far. Maybe he's a little sensitive like his owner! ;-)

They do seem to know when the weathers not so good, have you also checked your temperatures in the table. :)

Yes, the temperatures are perfect for him. Hopefully the weather will improve soon so he can actually go outside. He'll enjoy it more there I think too :-)

Yes the weather is awful at the minute, my lot are all quite today, I hope it picks up soon, you'll see a difference when he's outside. :)

Thank you :-)

I think it's still a bit chilly outside at the minute. What are your thoughts?

We've had 45mph winds today - I wouldn't enjoy it if I had to be out all day!

Tortoises are funny creatures, they don't interpret weather the same as we do. We have gales here today too and yet only three are in the greenhouse, the others are out and about as there is still lots of sunshine and they are still managing to warm up between showers. What are your table temps, assuming he is in a table top habitat? As he was from a reptile centre, I would probably take a poo sample to your local vet for testing for parasites, as being an import, he may well be carrying a burden. Hope this helps.

OK, thank you.

I have just got home and he hasn't been under his lamp all day.

I'm just giving him a bath but as soon Ashe woke up he started making funny noises. A very faint kind of tick(?) noise when he was breathing. Is he not very well? I can't see any bubbles coming from his mouth or nose though.

A bit worried now :-(

OMG. Just to say I am not Beermat I am Sue! Yes really! Accounts have been switched for some reason! Anyway, try bathing Ashe in warmer water than usual and then see how things go. Need to know his temps though, under lamps and in cool end!
Sue (sorry, really not Beermat). Big brother, you can pack it in now, you are sussed lol!

Sorry, that was a typo there. Meant to say as soon as he woke up!

32 under lamp, 19 in the cool part right now.

Gets to 17ish at night.

P.S. That just made me giggle. Brothers are always jokers!
