I am very new to all this, but want to do the best I can for my new friend. I have a 1 yr old Hermann indoors on a table. Can you please advise when I should turn his lamps on or off? And should I be spraying areas with water as the substrate seems very dry?

Thank you

Hi Becky, welcome to tortoise ownership and the forum. Always try to replicate as much as possible what they would have in the wild, so try to follow natural light patterns as closely as you can. Switch lights on when you get up in the morning so long as it's light outdoors and switch them off again late afternoon or when he digs down. Substrate needs to be damp below the surface rather than on top, again as in the wild, so watering is preferable to spraying. This is how I keep mine, hope it helps. www.tortsmad.com/hatchlings.htm
