Hello,

I am starving my 2 tortoises for hibernation. The larger of the two slowed down eating weeks ago, and has slowed down in general. The smaller is still walking around most of the day, searching for food. I have caught him a couple of times trying to eat the wood chip!!

Should I just let him continue to search? I just feel bad for him, but know he shouldn't be fed for 3 weeks before hibernation!!

Have you reduced temps and light? I'd get him off wood chips they are very dangerous if eaten and have no thermoregulation properties.

I just have 1 light/UV bulb, which I have started to turn on later and switch off earlier.

What would you suggest as suitable bedding? And a good supplier? Currently go to Pets at Home.

Pets at home are particularly bad for tortoise advice. They need soil or coir to be closer to what they would have in nature. You need to raise your lamp so the temps are lower, again to mimic what would happen in nature. What regime are you following?
