Hello!

I have a 4-year-old male Hermann's tortoise. I am wondering what age I should hibernate him? And what the best way is for this specific breed.

Any information will be appreciated!

Thank you!

All hibernating species can be hibernated from their first year. I hibernate all of mine from around thirty grams. What weight is yours? This is how I do mine www.tortsmad.com/hibernation.htm

My tortoise weighs 1.75 pounds.

Thank you for the link! It was very useful; however, in one section it said "An alternate method that works well is to fill the hide areas with substrate and allow them to hibernate in a much bigger area than boxes, more naturally."  To me it was unclear what it meant; does this mean that you leave them in their enclosure, but fill their shelters with soil, letting them bury themselves? :)

Thank you for your help!

I also hibernate my hatchlings, I use the fridge method for this and I find it works really well, with your tortoise been such a good weight he would probably benefit from hibernation. :)
