Hi everyone

Is it a big no to have two male Hermann torts together? A girl I work with is going to Australia for a couple of years and has asked what I think about taking on her tortoise with Hank. He is a male hermann so I'm a bit reluctant. Everything I have read says they will probably fight?

Just wanted your advise if you don't mind?

Firstly you would have to do twelve months quarantine anyway, so you would need to setups ready. You would likely have some dominance issues, which could take a season to sort, so I would keep them separately if it was me yo be on the safe side. Your tortoises would have to be the same species too.

Some males get on just fine others don't, they would need a really big space though so they can get away from each other if needed, but as Sue has said they couldn't go together any way for the 1st year as quarantine is so important as they can have underlying problems that don't always show up until it's too late, just some thing to think about before you say you'll look after him. :)

I'm going to say no. I don't think I have the experience needed for it and if things went wrong and they didn't like each other we would be in trouble.
I don't have the space either to make the outdoor area big enough for 2.

I feel a bit bad because you always want to help don't you but it's not right for Hank and I'm still a beginner in the tortoise world lol

Thanks xxx
