Hi, yes from what I've been told the T5 are better if you look on swell reptiles they sell both the tube and controller together  https://www.reptiles.swelluk.com/:)

Hi i dont use the tubes, i use the Mega-ray bulbs which give off heat and uv together I've used these for some years now, these would work well in your set up.  http://www.megaray.c...dfe9f1c4fe503e6:)

I use any brand of tube, using it for just additional lightlevels. Like Karen, I use the megarays as that is where they bask and therefore where they obtain uvb at the same time. I find that little ones indoors need much more light than one lamp will give, to come anywhere close to outdoor light levels ( which stimulate activity). It's the light that stimulates them, but do remember to supplement daily too with a product that contains D3

I use  2 x T5  as they are more powerful and use less energy - 12% . I only cover 50% of the setup with these.

How far away from the tortoise is your light set up? I only have 12 inches of height on my set up? and what brand are you using?

Hello

For people who need some information on UV and heat set-up, below is the set for my two Hermann babies when they stay in their indoors enclosure:

Megaray bulb 100W + dome kit. The bulb provides heat and UV at the same time. The dome is to direct the heat and UV downwards.

http://www.megaray.c...-kit-p-561.html

Arcadia D3+ T5 Reptile Lamp (it is actually a UV strip/tube). The UV strips come different lengths therefore they have different wattage. UV strips provide UV light only, no heat.

https://www.reptiles...lamp-t5-12-uvb/

Arcadia T5 Reflector for T5 Tube. This is the reflector, so that the UV light is glaring down in the enclosure and not in the room.

https://www.reptiles...-t5-reflectors/

Arcadia T5 Twin Controller. You need to pick the one which has the same wattage as the UV strip. For example if you pick the longest UV tube which is 54W, you need to buy the Twin controller of 54W. You basically connect each end of the the UV strip with the twin controller and then plug the controller in a normal wall socket.

https://www.reptiles...-t5-controller/

I put the UV strips at about 30cm above ground of indoor enclosure.

UV strips need be changed every 6 months.

Megaray bulbs need to be changed once a year.

i hope this helps.

Sabina

I am afraid I don't know the answer to your question. Perhaps call Swellreptiles on 0161 351 4700 and ask them.

What species do you keep? Are the in a Viv? Anything below 12" would be putting your torts in danger.
