Hi welcome to the forum.  :)

Tables don't work too well for adults as they need quite a lot of space, it would be ok to use either end of hibernation before their back out side but you would need one as big as you have space for.  :)

Thank, its great to know I have help at the tap of a button. I'm not planning on hibernating him I have looked into it, for one thing my fridge temp is not low enough. I have tried turning it down this didn't work. I find it all a little daunting as I've only had him 2 months. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi if you've only had him that long then I would leave hibernation this year and try and make him some thing large enough for this winter, it want's a good uv/heat bulb and plenty of light to keep him going, the best place for an adult from spring is living outside this is maybe some thing you could look into between now and then a small greenhouse or shed works well with a heat lamp in there, this gives them chance to warm up when the weathers not so good, from this an area with plants and edible weeds works well, welcome to tortoise keeping any questions you have just ask.  :)
