Is It Too Early To Hibernate

10 September 2012 - 07:06 PM

Our tort has decided that she wants to hibernate very early this year. She is about 6 or 7 years old, 13.5 cm and 515g at the moment. She has been hibernating in the fridge for the past 3 years. She was up in the 1st week in March this year, which is when I normally heat her up.Usually she slows down towards the end of September and goes into the fridge mid to late October. But this year she just keeps digging in. I've tried un-digging her and settting her in the sun (it was 26C at the weekend), but she just wants to dig in again.

She hasn't really eaten much during August, I think she put on a lot earlier in the sumer. What should I do? I could take her inside, but usually she is only inside early in spring.

Thanks,
Stuart.
