Great news, Sabina, you must have been out of your mind with worry. So glad the panic’s over.

What a lovely looking tortoise; great to see him well and munching away.

Hi, Denise, nice to see you back on the forum; hope all's well with you.

Yes, lamb's lettuce is an excellent tortoise food; have a look at this link:

They sell it in the bigger stores of Sainsburys and Tescos for about £1 a bag.

I always give it to Harry when he emerges from hibernation, along with a small portion of cucumber to help hydrate him.

As Sabina says, florette crispy lettuce can be fed temporarily too.

Keep us informed of Daphne and Mabel's progress

Quite a number of tubs of elbow grease needed, Sue; been there, done it, bought the t-shirt. Depends on what you use actually, certainly would not recommend a heat gun on old wood; on two occasions I’ve known the wood to smoulder unnoticed, causing a potential fire hazard. I always use a chemical paint stripper; One-Shot is the best, but you need to wear gloves and a mask as it’s pretty potent. Even the toughest of paint practically falls off after an hour or so.
