Incubating Eggs!

05 June 2014 - 09:37 AM

Hi,

My girl laid her first clutch of eggs which are now incubating in a homemade incubator made from a poly box, heat mat, stat, bricks and tub of water for humidity.  The eggs are sat in small plastic tubs (the ones crickets etc come in) on damp vermiculite.  The humidity is at 69% but I'm struggling to get the temp above 28 degrees in the incubator even though the stat is cranked up higher.. Is the heat mat just not strong enough? (it covers the entire length of the bottom of the box) What am I doing wrong? How can I raise the temp??  I'm worried I'm going to spoil the eggs  PLEASE HELP!!!!

How Small Is Too Small?

11 July 2013 - 06:35 PM

Hi

My little cupcake has been enjoying the glorious sunshine by being in her outdoor enclosure every day, but i'm very nervous about leaving her in it overnight, 1, because she, to me seems too small (she is only 2 and 67mm long) and 2, there are a lot of cats in my neighbourhood and i'm just worried she'll be attacked.  Am I being over cautious? Is she big enough and old enough to maybe let her stay out right now?

Sleeping Under Basking Light?

01 July 2013 - 06:41 PM

Hi, can anyone offer advice? My tort has taken to sleeping under her basking light during the day and I'm not sure of the reason for this? Temps under the basking light are set on a thermostat at 90f and the cooler end thermometer reads 57f.. I have tried encouraging her to bury at the cooler end but she just returns to the warmer end again?
