Thick Shell

13 August 2014 - 01:35 PM

Hi our tortoise is starting to get a thick shell underneath her chin and I'm worried that she's just growing too much. it also seems as though her legs are chafing from her shell when she walks. I'm taking to the vets tomorrow to be seen but I'm worried I've been doing things wrong and making her ill.

She is now 5 years old.

Hi everyone!

Im new here. I've had my tortoise T for 5 years. This is her first hibernation as previously we were selling our house and didn't want to start hibernating and then move, the house took a little longer than we anticipated!

I love my tortoise so so much. She is no bother at all!! I'm scared stiff of hibernating but I know this is natural for her and has to be done.

Looking forward to being a member here and reading other people's stories.

Hugs to you all

Hibernation Tortoise Not Moving

04 November 2013 - 10:16 AM

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. :)

My tortoise T is five years old and this is her first hibernation. We have done all the wind down procedures to the letter.

She has been in the fridge now for two weeks.

first week after weigh in she was still responsive and her legs were quite stiff. They did move if touched.

This week (2nd) at weigh in all her legs and head was limp and no response when touched. not even a movement.

I've been awake all night worrying that she might be dead. Is this normal?

Any advice would be great, I don't want to try and wake her up if i'm just worrying about nothing!

Thanks

Fox
