O have a purpose built run and house. Of you look at the 'work in progress' thread in here you can see what I did. Currently no frost has penetrated and the temps have been ideal for the torts. The run could do with being bigger and I will plan for that over time. I think the house is as good as it can be. Be warned though it cost me over 300 to purpose build the house and run to fit where I wanted it.

In Topic: Tubular Heater And Frost Thernostat.

Hi sue, I can only find links to tubular heaters on tortsmad and there is nothing to the link. I have purchased a tubular heater but the thermostat doesn't have numbers around the dial.

What I need is a plug in thermostat that is accurate enough to turn on at 3 degrees and go off at 4-5 degrees. I have found a couple online but they have some good reviews but also some poor ones. I am looking for one I know is going to work accurately to full affect.

Do you, or anyone else own one that they know works well? If so do you happen to have a link for it? It's getting quite urgent now as my lowest temp since i reset was 4.3 degrees and I worry about a frost coming in without prior warning.

Many thanks,

I personally purchased a mvb bulb. This helps with uv and heat. The torts generally spent the summer months outside their house in their cold frame which makes sense as sue said there will always be more uv in natural sunlight. The torts I think didn't even know what their house was until the sunlight reduced and it became more overcast. Now they spend a lot of time under their mvb. The good thing is they are expensive but they last quite a while. Obviously the more expensive the better. I went for 100 watts. Someone may come along with more experience and rebutt this but they seem to like it and get the uv on seriously bad days. They last a lot longer than uv tube lights.

Ok I will remove their plants and cuttlefish. I will reduce their hours to 8 tomorrow morning and work out the reduction I need per day over 28 days to have a last hour on last day.
I will be weighing them again tomorrow so I have and accurate reading. I however don't have digital scales at the moment which sucks but mine are broken. This is my first hibernation so have been reading for a long while. Thanks for the link sue. Can always rely on a good reply. X
