Help!

16 October 2015 - 10:41 AM

I hope someone can help. My 1 year old Hermann Khal Drogo, does not seem to be eating much at all. I dont know what i am doing wrong. He only weighs 36g as of last saturday and today it seems to have gone down to 35g.

I have tried him on Dandelion, clover, grass, lettuce, honeysuckle, roses, and watercress. The only thing we have seem him eat was a strawberry my daughter gave him after watching them being fed them on youtube!

He has a bath every day but has only passed urates once, his first bath. I keep his substrate damp underneath and dry on top. He has a heat lamp which heats to approx 35 in his basking spot and the rest of the table is around 18-21 degrees.

He is active mainly in the afternoon and appears to sleep the rest of the time.

I have only had him for 2 weeks.

Thanks in advance for any help

Becky

I am very new to all this, but want to do the best I can for my new friend. I have a 1 yr old Hermann indoors on a table. Can you please advise when I should turn his lamps on or off? And should I be spraying areas with water as the substrate seems very dry?

Thank you

Hello!

09 October 2015 - 10:28 AM

Hello,

My name is Becky and yesterday my husband gave me a Hermanns tortoise for my Birthday. It was a lovely surprise as I have always wanted one. However, I am a little under prepared and would love some help/advise on how to care for him. He is tiny! I never expected a tortoise to be so small and, dare I say it, does not seem to be very happy...Since he arrived yesterday evening he doesn't  seemed to have drank, eaten or even moved that much.

I have tried to find out  information on line but so much of it seems conflicting. My husband bought everything the seller advised him to get..An indoor table, 2 lamps, some substrate, dishes, bowls, digital thermometer, spray cleaner..... but no real advise!

Hope to hear from someone soon
