Continuous Hot And Dry Weather

07 July 2018 - 08:47 PM

Hello everyone

As we all know and as a friendly reminder for new keepers of Mediterranean tortoises (especially those with young ones), with this continued hot and dry weather please make sure torts have an area with damp soil (damp deeply, not damp on top only) where they can dig in at night and also water dishes available during the day. Also areas of good shade for those who have just built their outdoors enclosures.

Of course some fake rain with a hoose or a water can will most likely be enjoyed by our torts.

Fresh Nettles

03 July 2018 - 12:04 PM

Hello

I wanted to share with you some info that i read on a french website on tortoises and about fresh nettles.

Basically nettles cut and given after about 4 hours they were cut are very nutritious for tortoises. I feed my babies with some regularly. I cut some leaves and leave them in the enclosure in the morning, then it is up to the torts to choose when they want to have a bite. I noticed they eat them until the last bit even though they have other favorite leaves and flowers available to them. So it is not like they are starving and are forced to eat the nettles only.

I am sure some torts do and some don't enjoy nettles, but i wanted to share this with you.

How Do You Dispose Your Substrate Used Indoors?

19 May 2018 - 03:19 PM

Hello

Out of curiosity, how do you guys get rid of your substrate used indoors (top soil, cococoir etc)?

Can't put this in my garden waste bin.

Last year i dropped the substrate at a refusal center, where they have a garden waste giant skip.

Thank you

Great Indoor Enclosure Seen Youtube

Here is an idea of indoor enclosure for babies and young tortoises, and it is extentable when needed. Looks rather cheap in terms of cost too
